The Cutlass was the ideal weapon for both the Pirate and the Sailor. For a tool the Cutlass was ideal for the sea man and could be used for cutting through rope, canvas and wood. However, this was not what made the Cutlass notorious. It was the Cutlass ability to be used in close quarters as a boarding weapon. The Cutlass was made to be a hack and slash weapon and with its short curved blade it became a formidable sword in the close quarters of a ship. The Cutlass was a simple weapon and did not require the skill of a Rapier or a Dress Sword but was more effective than a saber. The Cutlass of the Pirate and the Sailor were very similar and most of the time the same, since the Pirates would take the swords from the sailors.
This is a replica of the style of Cutlass used during the 1600s. The sword can be displayed with pride or used for reenactments.
- Blade: The blade of the sword is 440 stainless steel with a slightly sharpened edge. A temper line runs the length of the blade.
- Scabbard: The scabbard is wooden with a black dull gloss finish and shiny highlights. The drag is golden steel with two crossed guns. The scabbard throat is also golden steel with a skull and cross bones on one side, and two crossed swords on the other.
- Guard: The guard is a basket guard with a cut out design and a mermaid.
- Handle: The handle is steel with a patterned steel design of criss crossing ropes.
