Product Description
The Baoteng sword originates from the Qing dynasty, under Emperor Qianlong. To celebrate the prosperity of this dynasty, he commissioned the Imperial Household to craft 90 swords in honor of this celebration. The Emperor personally hand picked the materials to be used, and oversaw the design of the swords themselves, each one being slightly different from the others and therefore unique. The swords were produced from 1748 to 1793 and took 45 years to make all 90 swords.
This particular model is based off of the Baoteng Sword number 17. The original sword sold for $5.9 million dollars, but you can own a high quality reproduction of this sword for a fraction of that cost.
This sword comes in a high quality display box, and includes a sword cleaning kit.
Blade: The blade of this sword is made of steel that is painstakingly forge folded by hand. There are appoximately 2,000 layers of steel, which give an amazing aesthetic to the blade. There are double grooves cut into the blade to lighten the weight.
The blade comes full tang and very sharp.
Scabbard: The scabbard is a very high quality sheath that features a highly detailed surface in a geometric pattern. All of the metal furniture is cast bronze with an antique look to it, and they all feature amazing details with a dragon motif. The belt loop holder is made of tightly braided cotton, which has been treated with wax and is attached to a highly ornate cast bronze belt hook. The saya end piece is also cast bronze and covers the entire end of the scabbard.
Handle: The handle also features highly ornate cast bronze fittings, with a dragon's head blade collar, intricate handle guard, and bolster and pommel. There is a decorative pin holding the handle firm to the tang. The wood core is shaped to be very ergonomic, and is then tightly wrapped in the traditional method with cotton string that has been treated with wax.
