The brigandine is an innovative form of armor in that it integrated small steel plates that were placed between two sheets of cloth such as canvas. The final product would be an extremely functional form of armor around the upper body without the cumbersome weight and limited movement of full plate armor. Brigandine armor was very popular with high society as well as foot soldiers.
